Since March 1, 2025, new Belgian regulations apply to rooms containing a bath or shower. These have been aligned with the regulations of the international standard IEC 60364-7-701. The regulations for sockets and several definitions have also been amended. With the approval of the Belgian inspection services, it is now permitted to install a shower toilet and electric heater right next to your bath or a Sunshower in your walk-in shower. For heat pumps, an additional mandatory declaration applies regarding noise emissions.

For faucets, newcomers should especially ensure that their dream plumbing fixtures meet the BELGAQUA standard. If you purchase B-brand materials and Asian-made products from cheap online suppliers, your plumbing fixtures risk being rejected. If you’re unsure, enter your brand name and type in the database.

For other sanitary products, there is currently no mandatory standardized labeling. The EU introduced a proposal for uniform water labeling at the end of 2019. From 2022, EU manufacturers of faucets and toilets will be required to comply with these standards. More information can be found here. With a water-saving shower head, you can reduce water consumption from 9 l/min to 5 l/min. An ECO-type rain shower has a ball joint for pressure reduction and will reduce consumption from 14 l/min to 9 l/min. Every brand offers this today at no extra cost. As a consumer, you are entitled to a 2-year warranty on all new movable goods. Furthermore, our suppliers offer a longer warranty on their products or certain parts. Therefore, it is important to always keep your delivery note along with the date of purchase. The packaging is not legally required to be kept. However, for faucets that need to be returned to the manufacturer, they usually request the original packaging. If you are buying an existing home and opting not to renovate the plumbing fixtures, always request a copy of the delivery notes, even if the warranty has expired. For new construction or renovations, a contractor or architect is liable for serious defects for 10 years. However, this does not apply to minor work such as laying floor tiles, plastering, and plumbing fixtures. In the event of a leak, leak detection expertise is usually required to be eligible for compensation.
